Joan Suubi Afrochian watches as Steven Seeguya (center) and Gloria Pichan practice writing out dictionary definitions on the front porch of the Bitone Centre for Disadvantaged Children. The Centre works with children traumatized by death, disease, war and economic hardship. It works to provide them with food, shelter, an education and teaches traditional dance, music and theater. The Bitone Centre has been aided by the Rotary Club of Kampala-East (Uganda) and the Traverse Bay Sunrise Rotary Club (Michigan, USA) through a World Community Service collaboration. In addition, The Rotary Foundation has awarded two Matching Grants and one Volunteer Service Grant to support the project. The Centre is located in Lugoba village, in the Kawempe division of Kampala, Uganda.
